Hull House

We live right down the street from a historical monument- the Hull House on Genesee.  I have always wondered about it, but never investigated.

Well, I happened to stumble across a festival there this weekend!
This is the view from Genesee Street.
Dyleva was fascinated by the old house and the antique artifacts found inside.  Straight away, they were drawn to the spinning wheel, because they recognized it from Sleeping Beauty.

Dylan found an old bed key used to tighten the rope supporting the straw mattresses.

Eva was very interested in the old dolls and toys that the children used to play with.

Outside, there were vendors and little stations used to demonstrate skills from then.

This woman was showing Dyleva how to treat wool and manipulate it until its hard.  They made a firm little ball that was later made into a necklace.

There was a woodcutter, a blacksmith, a woman cross-stitching, and tools for grinding grain.

But am I really done?

The end of a school year.  So excited to be done, but quite honestly, more exhausted than anything.
Dylan also decided to make limeade.  For breakfast.

Both ninos took a turn at coming into my class this week.  Friday, Eva came out with us to happy hour!

I went to bed, relatively early.  Woke up refreshed, and ready for the day!

Apparently so did Dyleva.

By 9:00 Eva was painting flower pots in the dining room.

Dylan had decided to empty his entire piggy bank all over the kitchen floor.

I'm trying to make breakfast, clean the kitchen, fold laundry and get them out of the house within the hour for gymnastics.

Crazy.

So what exactly gave me the idea that I was done for the summer?

Oh Dylan.

My boy has also had an eventful few weeks.

It's a big deal finishing kindergarten.   He has been so proud; going all around the house singing his songs so he's ready.

He takes it very seriously.

He also has been chosen/assigned to read the morning announcements in his school.  One day is just the pledge, but the second day, it is the school kindness pledge- huge words!  He is going to do great!

Finally, he had his gymnastics performance.  All year long, Jeff and I were like, wow, that boy certainly does not excel in class.  He's goofy and silly.

At home, that's all he does, is try and kill himself with different flips.

But the day of the performance, he was like gymnast genius! We looked at each other in awe.  He was the best in his class!

On that note, Dylan has been doing full on back flips into the pool.  Well tonight, he must have arched his back to much and cracked his head on the edge of the pool.

My heart stopped.

So far he's okay....but still watching him carefully.

Oh Dylan.

Dose of Dave

So this blog is about my children.

But I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge a huge influence on my life with my children.

Tio David.

Had to get my fill, check out how close I was!

Ocho anos.

On Monday, I said to Eva.  "Hey, do you know what I was doing eight years ago?  I was in labor. Intermittent painful labor for 12 hours. "

She did not think that was funny.

And on Tuesday, when we woke up, I said, "Hey Eva, do you know what I was doing eight years ago today?  I was in labor. Intermittent painful labor for another 12 hours. "

She was getting cranky.

And of course on Wednesday, day three, I said to her, "Hey Eva...."

"No!  Mommy!  I don't want to hear that!"

"Hard labor...squatting...hospital...Tia Mandy" I continued

"No!"
She was very angry for some bizarre reason.  Jeez.  You would think she was the one that labored for four days!

Anyway, three hours into the fourth and final day, Eva Magnolia Wagner was born on June 1 at 3:12 AM.  She was the first baby of the month at Children's Hospital.  They rang the bells.  It was an amazing memory.  I felt complete.

And now, eight years later, my baby is so big.

Today, she actually picked up her dirty clothes off of the floor and put them in with the dirty laundry!  It only took eight years!

Eva began the celebration of her birth week with bizcocho for her classmates.  We continued with an annual dinner at her favorite, the Melting Pot.  It was actually fantastic.  We had a great waiter.

Her day continued with visitors, and phone calls, and presents.

And this was only day one.

I cannot believe in double the time, she will be sixteen.

I really wish some scientist could create a 'FREEZE' button.
