Michael Franti

Every year we mark the end of the school year with something special.  Usually ice cream.  This year, however, we went above and beyond.  The last day of school, which also happened to be Jeff's birthday, we went to a concert with friends.

Michael Franti happened to be playing at Artpark, so our "gang" all went to see him.  Mandy was first to arrive, which was awesome because she secured us a great spot.  Before the show, the ninos played on the hill.  Once it began, everyone was singing and dancing.  Franti came down into the audience (??!!) quite frequently.  Eva captured some great close up shots of him.

What a beautiful photo, Eva

He has a powerful message.  It was a beautiful night.  What a great way to kick off summer vacation!

In exchange for an awful camping trip

 I love camping!

Unfortunately, the weekend after school ended a small monsoon passed through Watkins Glen.

We decided to cancel.

I was bummed, but who wants to camp

Turning 14...

 Pobrecita.

She had been looking forward to birthday weekend.  Unfortunately, Eva got some kind of virus the days before her birthday.  However, she did recover for the big day.

We had some familia come over and sing to her.  Eva kind of got the cake she wanted.  She had requested a salted caramel Starbucks cake.  I tried!  Her gift of Six came a month before.  Here is Eva turning 14.

Party:

Happy Birthday Eva Magnolia!

A Saturday Night down Memory Lane

Dyleva and I found ourselves together on a Saturday, with nothing to do.  Dylan and I started with a hike with Giz.  Then I took Dyleva's photos in our yard.  Finally, Dyleva recreated an old video.

Eva decided to make some games.  They asked me to take them to the grocery store.  They were making me dinner!

The games were fun!  Eva put cups with condiments taped to the end of the table.  At the other end, you had to roll the oreo into the cup.  Some of the condiments were interesting...and the oreo was not so tasty...

Another game, she had a bunch of items tied to string.  The strings were tangled.  You had to pull on an item and see which prize it was attached to.

Yet another game, you had to add water to a glass without making it spill over.  It was so much fun!

Dyleva made me homemade pizza pockets and corn for dinner.  Mm Mm, delicious!

We ended the evening with watching old videos!  My favorite.  They were so funny!  I love watching Dyleva so small, hearing them talk.  What a great evening!

A Mother's Day walk in the woods

Our mother's day was a little scattered.  Dylan was sick, on the upswing though.  The plans we had altered and fell through.  But we ended up pulling it together for a hike.

Now.

You would probably think, big deal.  This family hikes all the time.  But honestly, with my kids, it feels like it has been forever.  So much that last winter/fall, I started doing hikes by myself.  I pulled the Mother's Day card and wanted to hike.

It was beautiful.

We did Chestnut Ridge.  Never smooth, but we got through it.  Every day should be Mother's Day.

A gift from Eva

SIX!!!

For Eva's birthday she got tickets for Six.  She invited Gabby, but last minute, she got strep throat.  Bummer.

Thank you Lola!  She stepped in.  Initially, Eva didn't think of her only because Six is a little risque...but Lola was up for the challenge.

It was the best show I have ever see.

Hands down.

It had energy.  The women could sing! They could dance!  I loved the plot!  It was playful, it was contraversial.  It was educational and historical.  I loved it!

The girls also loved it.  Maybe not for the same reasons.  We left the show and headed across the street to the restaurant.  We were rehashing the show when we noticed a gathering across the street.  The actresses had come out to sign autographs.  I looked at Eva.

"Go," I said.

She and Lola raced across the street.

What a perfect afternoon!
