Checking out Modified

We tread with trepidation into the world of modified hockey.  Dylan was fortunate enough to make the team.  I braced myself for what was to come.

It was a mixed bag; He was playing with school friends.  That is novel, cool and fun.  The teams he will be playing against, he is familiar with.  He knows many of the players.

So even though they are now allowed this new form of contact, my naivete hopes they will respect one another.

Yeah right.

Today was the first game.  We'll see how it goes!

We were fortunate enough to have Titi and family come see the game tonight.  She is like a professional photographer!

All of the kids had to go through a checking clinic before they began this new year.

I'm still nervous.  Here are some highlights of Dylan's first modified game.

Participation medal

To finish off the season, Southtown Stars had one last tournament.  It was local, it was fun to get everyone back together again.  Unfortunately, Dylan and his team made it to second place.  The team was much better than them, so unfortunately, they lost to them twice.

Terribly, the first time they played them, they were down a ref, and the one inept ref didn't do so hot.  The coach ended up getting removed from the bench because there were so many penalties.  It was bad.  The parents started yelling at the ref and also got expelled from the rink.

The second match was not as dramatic; yet yielded the same results.  I waited outside as the players exited.  Alex, a buddy of Dylans came out.  Jeff said, "Good game Alex," and he replied, "It's just a participation medal."

A figurative hattrick

It seems these days...we are all rooting for something!

Eva applied weeks ago to the Leadership Academy at her school.  It would put her in a smaller group of students and provide her with many more opportunities.   I'm pleased to announce that she has been accepted.

Congratulations Eva!

I have grown in my frustration in finding a program for me...since I cannot retire yet, and all my UB classes are during the day when I am teaching.  I found a University online, and I have been accepted.
Yay!

As one team season ends...another begins.  Dylan was nervous to see if he would make the modified team.  He did!  We are so happy and proud of him!

A Hattrick for our family!!!!

A Leader in our midst...

Sooner or later, I will have to acknowledge the teenager in my midst.   Eva had applied to the Leadership Academy Program a few months back.  This weekend, we learned that she was accepted.  Thank you to Uncle John and all the friends that sent good positive vibes her way!

What this means for her future...I am still unsure.  However, this it the direction Eva has chosen and we are celebrating it for her!  Excellent job Eva in getting accepted!!!
